Janis Lyn Joplin the Queen of Rock was an American singer and songwriterknown for her bluesy mezzo-soprano vocals and electric stage presence. She rose to fame in the late 1960s as the lead singer of Big Brother and the Holding Company, and later as a solo artist. Joplin's big break came at the 1967 Monterey Pop Festival, where her performance with Big Brother and the Holding Company led to a record deal with Columbia Records. She later formed the Kozmic Blues Band.
